Niagara on Fire
On December 10, 1813 American Forces decided to burn Newark. 400 refugees watched their homes burn down. They sought shelter at the Fort and Butlers Barracks. Eventually the British seized control of the town. For his part in the burning of Newark, McClure was relieved of his command and dismissed from the U.S Army

So much strife and dismay captured in this photo. You can almost discern the roar of the burn. A good eye.

Enjoyed the documentary and felt the horrors that war brought to our town. Well done and kudos to all involved. The photograph captures the nightmare.

Came home from Anne and Pete's last night Freddie and was wondering what the spotlights in the back garden were! I guess it was from the Main Street....great shot Freddie. Our house is on the map in Fort Niagara across in Youngston....or should I say ( A dwelling) was on our lot in the 1800's.....so much history eh!
