Jim Turner
Lord Mayor Pat Darte congratulates Jim Turner, who started walking midnight Saturday, and travelled
75K to raise money for Niagara Children's Society. His trek started in Port Colborne and ended in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Inspired by young Joshua Gaudier, who was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when he was six. Joshua crossed the
finish line with Turner, his father Jason pushing him. The total trek lasted 16 hours and paced 100,000 steps.

Canadian Aces
Major Craig Sharp hails from Prince George, British Colombia. He is Lead-Solo Snowbird number nine.
In 2009 he served in Afganistan for a 7 month duration, and has been in the Canadian Air Force,
for 20 proud years. Major Craig Sharp is a true Ace. The Snow Birds put on an amazing show, it was
part of Canada 150 celebration. We can all be proud of our Canadian heros.
NOTL 225 Anniversary
Niagara-on-the-Lake celebrated its 225th anniversary for being the first capital of Upper-Canada. Lieutenant
Governor Simcoe was the first, in 1792. Lord Mayor Pat Darte escorts, Her Honour, The Honourable Elizabeth
Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, to the commemoration.
Heritage Days
St. Davids celebrated its history by hosting a Heritage Festival. Heritage committee
chair Al Steip says the event shows the residents our rich history, and brings the
community together to learn our past. St. Davids was the Capital of Upper Canada in
1812. It became an important milling centre on Four Mile Creek. There were four
gristmills, a tannery, and a sawmill. Factories were built that made barrels, shoes,
candles, and soap. We even had a brewery called Stamford Spring Brewery in 1836,
established by John H. Sleeman. He said he believes events like these are a valuable
tool to educating our future generations about our roots. The Native community
established its roots here 10,000 years ago.
